These are some BASIC skills/tools you will need to take an online course.

Saving Files
1. Click on 'File'
2. Click on 'Save As'
3. Navigate to  where you would like  to save file (i.e., Desktop, C: drive, My Documents, etc.)  
4. Click 'Save'

Note: Do not name the file with special character (Ex: * & ^ % $ #)

Cut and Paste
1. Highlight area to cut by left clicking on the beginning of the word or phrase to highlight. Or you can go to Edit and "Select All" to highlight the whole document. (If you use select all you can skip steps 2 and 3)
2. Hold down left mouse key and drag over the area to be cut or copied.
3. Right click on the highlighted area.
4. Select Copy or Cut
5. Open the document you would like to paste the information.
6. Right click and select paste.

Search Engines
What is a search engine? A search engine is a tool that enables users to locate information on the World Wide Web. Search engines use keywords entered by users to find Web sites which contain the information sought.

Types of Search Engines
1. http://www.google.com/
2. http://www.yahoo.com/
3. http://www.dogpile.com/
4. http://www.bing.com/

To use a search engine, you go to the site and type in keywords to the information you are looking for. Click Enter and "search the web."

What is a Browser?
A client software program used for searching and viewing various kinds of Internet resources such as information on a web site. The most popular Internet browsers are Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.

Types of Browsers
1. Internet Explorer (Recommended)
2.  Firefox Mozilla
3.  Google Chrome
4. Opera
5. Safari

Create Folders on Your Desktop
1. Right click on your desktop (anywhere)
2. Click on 'New'
3. Click on 'Folder'
4. Name your folder
5. Click 'Enter'

If you need to rename the folder, right click on the folder and select rename. Type in your name and click Enter.
